The UK may have invented the idea of public-private partnerships (PPPs) but we seem to be running out of them. John Laing Group, which came to the stock market in February last year at 195p, buys into these and helps to build them, selling them on once they are completed.

There are a couple of linked infrastructure funds that are quoted and are willing buyers — I have written about John Laing Infrastructure and John Laing Environmental Assets frequently because of the secure income they provide investors from those completed projects.

Because John Laing is ahead of the funds in the building cycle, it is by definition the riskier investment but provides more potential for capital uplift. The company has eight PPP schemes worth
